Fellows

Humanities Center Fellowships

The Humanities Center seeks both early-career and senior fellows from the faculty to contribute to its ongoing work. A fellow must be a Humanities Center affiliate (application to be an affiliate may be concurrent with the grant application). Fellows will work on a proposed humanities project, will serve as an active presence in the life of the center, and will make specific contributions to Center programming, which may include delivering a public lecture, coordinating a Center event, and/or providing service to the center as agreed upon with the WVUHC Director. Chosen faculty will be considered a Center Fellow during the full academic year. In the narrative, applicants should describe specifically how the grant will advance:
  1. their work (explain the overall research project), as well as,
  2. the Center’s work (any public components of the project).
The budget may contain costs including (but not limited to) research travel, subvention costs, summer salary, and/or a course release. In the case of a course release request, a chair’s endorsement that approves the potential release and determines the replacement cost (with fringe if required) must be submitted with the application, and the narrative should specifically explain how the project and/or service to the Center supports an adjustment to the applicant’s existing workload assignment. Maximum budget: $7,500.

Components:

  1. Project Narrative: Attach a two-page narrative as a PDF (single-spaced, Times New Roman or comparable font, 11-point or larger). The narrative should explain the project, its relationship to the humanities, how it addresses interdisciplinary (if applicable), and its planned outcomes (including public outcomes). It should also comply with the specific requirements listed for each type of grant listed above. Reviewers will assess the merit and the outcomes of the proposal.
  2. CV: Attach your two-page CV as a PDF.
  3. Budget: Attach a budget for your project as a PDF.
  4. Letter of Support from Chair/Associate Chair: If you are requesting a course release through the Humanities Center Fellowship, attach a letter of support from your department chair or associate chair as a PDF.
